Artist, Graphic Designer and Researcher
(ES, CL~1997)
Barcelona based.

Andrea’s practice explores storytelling as a gesture to activate and enchant transformational experiences through her audiovisual installations, graphic work, audiovisual performances, workshops, and lectures. Her focus on storytelling encompasses ecological narratives, animism, hybridity, magic, and dreams; which for her, re-enchant this world, open new worlds and allow for a regenerative narrative to birth in a society of rigidity and linearity. Her graphic language involves gestures such as ornaments, illustrations, photography, website design, and riso-printing.

Symbioceno 2.0(2025)

The installation imagines what future ecosystems might be, expanding and reformulating the notion of the neofossil. It is generatively programmed: the central plant inhabiting the upper/aerial-terrestrial organism orchestrates changes throughout the installation—the lights, sound, and the motors and tides of the lower/aquatic organism—through biofeedback, a technique that uses sensors to measure parameters such as the plant’s electrical conductivity. These data are then translated into sound, light, and movement. In this way, Symbioceno is entirely subject to the impulses and cyclicality of the plant.

Assemblage(s) (2025)

Assemblague(s) is an ongoing research project which speculates on vehicles of language-in-kinship with more-than-human companions — from microbes and gut ecologies to soil, dust, and the microbial life inhabiting our technologies. The project uses the digestive process as both metaphor and method, unfolding in phases of ingestion, digestion, assimilation, and debris. Through fieldwork, samples were collected from the body and environment, observed under the microscope, and transformed into video, sound, and graphic symbols. These were carried by fragile bioplastics, cyanotype prints, and laser-cut forms, creating an unstable archive that decomposes as it speaks. Sensor-based experiments linked humidity and air quality to audiovisual material, opening speculative channels of communication between matter, bodies, and machines.

Cel rogent, pluja o vent (2024 - 2025)

Cel rogent, pluja o vent is a project created within the framework of the Organismo | Art in Applied Critical Ecologies independent study program, promoted by TBA21–Academy and the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza as part of the case study facilitated by Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) and FECYT | Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología - Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades.

The project draws on Joan Llort’s research on fire as a catalyst for marine life, showing how aerosols from forest fires transport essential elements that boost phytoplankton productivity. This paradoxical fire–water dynamic highlights the complex role of fire and raises questions about its understanding, management, and communication. The case study approaches fire holistically, reconsidering its meanings amid the growing impacts of climate change.

Case study participants: Clara Álvarez Andrea Galano Toro (sustrato grantee), Luis Lecea, Yannis Mantzaris, Pau Olmo & Emma Prats.

Assemblage(s): a Holobiont Spell(2024)

The work explores the entangled relationships between humans, the gut, bacteria, and the ecosystems we inhabit through biomaterials, a fractal language, a map, and sound. The spell is one of transformation, beginning and ending at the Crossroads: The gut, as a place of connection between the body and the outside world, which transforms into the Shelter—the house that builds itself. The Shelter is the host that holds the stranger and the parasite, which is simultaneously a home for others. This fusion transitions into the Debris, a place of death and rebirth—what is left in the ground will later become part of the gut again. It is through this intertwined & circular spell that all these points connect in space.

§ymBi𑃰c3nՓ: Temporalidades Ecoicas y Memorias Futuras(2024)

The project originates from the creation of a speculative fable that imagines what future ecosystems might be like, expanding and reformulating the notion of the neofossil. This speculative scenario is then given the name §ymBi𑃰c3nՓ: a new geological era in which Earth has become a testament to the resilience and adaptability of nature, governed by mutualism and synergy.

Installation with biomaterials and partially generative using Biofeedback for sound and ligths.

Collaboration with: Ander Vallejo Larre, Pierantonio Mangia
& Rocio Gomez.

Planta Kinetica (2024)

For this digital plant to move, it needs to be watered, turning the piece interactive for the audience. The plant follows a cycle of movement that persists until it is no longer wet. The lights represent each turn the plant makes and can be manipulated through OSC, sent by other organisms, playing with the idea of nature and technology as a symbiotic ecosystem.

Collaboration with: Rocío Goméz &
Ander Vallejo Larre (When plants Sing).

ReRooted (2024)

By Cruda Collective

This artistic video was done in conjunction with Virginia Vigliar’s workshop called An ecological approach to masculinity. Cruda’s production was aimed at creating a hybrid and fluid documentation of the workshop’s leading question and principle: what is the masculine and how can we rewild it?

Film winner of the open call ‘THE WORLD(S) WE WANT’ by @
smth.art and @niio.art that will be exhibited in Malaga, Mallorca, Bilbao, Madrid and Zaragoza.

Living Riddles(2023)

Video installation that conceives Lichens as a mythical entity The work endeavors to meld the realms of science fact,  with science fiction, stretching the boundaries of speculative storytelling, in order to rekindle the enchantment surrounding lichens.  Lichens assume a rebellious countenance, embodying resilience and embracing the intricacies of polyamory, unreservedly embracing its openly hybrid nature. This myth unfurls through three phases: Interstellar Ancestor, Symbiotic Dreams, and Liminal Beings.

Concept, visuals, myth: Andrea Galano Toro

De Allá Pa Acá (2021)

Translating to the colloquial Spanish as 'from there to here', De allá pa acá follows the speculative journey of one microbe, travelling from a Chilean mine to its new residence in the lithium battery powering your laptop. Microbes, extraordinarily minuscule living organisms, can survive in extracted lithium – the element that powers our everyday, electronic devices. This odyssey serves as a speculative vehicle to tell a multiplicity of stories of the Atacama Desert; from its cosmological creation to the necropolitics of Pinochet’s dictatorship.

Sound Design: Yannick Wandel
Instrumental: The Four frogs in the Woods.

Shown at:
Sonic Acts Biennal 2022
Fiber Festival Amsterdam 2022
