Translating to the colloquial Spanish as 'from there to here', De allá pa acá follows the speculative journey of one microbe, travelling from a Chilean mine to its new residence in the lithium battery powering your laptop.
Microbes, extraordinarily minuscule living organisms, can survive in extracted lithium – the element that powers our everyday, electronic devices. This odyssey serves as a speculative vehicle to tell a multiplicity of stories of the Atacama Desert; from its cosmological creation to the necropolitics of Pinochet’s dictatorship. Through the lens of this mobile non-human entity, De allá pa acá focuses on the multiplicity of stories that linger in the desert sands.
